Description & Services
Description | John Howard Society's, Employment Services offers a range of services and resources to respond to the career and employment needs of individuals and the labour needs of employers. We offer services that are equipped with the full range of both unassisted and assisted service components. The Client Service Planning and Coordination (CSPC) service function is imbedded in all of our Employment Service components and determines which requirements is best suited for each individual. Our services consists of five components which can be accessed in a flexible and interactive style through: Resource and Information, Job Search, Job Matching and Placement & Incentives, and Job/Training Retention. RESOURCE AND INFORMATION Resource and Information (RI) is an open access labour market service for the community where we provide information on local training and employment opportunities, community service supports, occupational and training requirements, including trades and apprenticeship, and resources to support independent or "unassisted" job search, career clarification and planning, and informed education, training and employment decisions. We also provide access to basic WHMIS and other Workplace Safety information and training. JOB SEARCH Where indidviduals are unsuited for or unsuccessful in conducting self- directed job search, this component of the service offers indidvidualized assistance in career clarification and goal setting, skills and interest assessment, interview and employment preperation. Basic WHMIS and other Workplace Safety information and trianing is also available. We supoort clients in planning and conducting job search, based on a realistic and accurate assessment of their qualifications compared to job requirements. JOB MATCHING AND PLACEMENT INCENTIVES Clients can expect support in matching their skills, capabilities, interests and experience with employer/position requirements, and placement into employment and/or on-the-job training opportunities, including job test and hire, work experience and community volunteer placements. JOB/TRAINING RETENTION While all assisted Employment Service components require monitoring and follow-up of all participants as key to effectve customer service, some clients may need the support of additional coaching and mentoring to maintain employment or complete training or to make that important next step on their career path. Key suitability indicators for Job Retention are related to continuing issues around market perceptions and workplace performance, including such things as a history of marginal or entry-level employment or of repeated job loss, a significant absence from the workforce, or being new to the Canadian workplace. We are an Employment Ontario site and are funded by Employment Ontario and by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities. |
