Description | Vita Centre offers support, education and counselling for pregnant and parenting youth. Programs offered at Vita Centre are: * Intake, support, and referral * One-to-one counselling services * Growing As Parents (GAP) - Parenting and life skills outreach * Supper Connection -Parenting and nutrition program * Nobody's Perfect Parenting program * Me, My Baby, Our World mother-infant attachment program * Care Closet (practical items for registered clients only) * Public education & awareness * Volunteer opportunities One-to-one Counselling: this program helps pregnant and parenting youth to make positive decisions for themselves and their child. The community counsellor will help youth in improving their physical and mental health and connect with community and necessary resources. Vita Centre provides help with: *Emotional support and case management *Pre/postnatal education and information *Advocating on behalf of youth to obtain housing, financial support etc *Suggesting and supporting alternatives to abortion *Developing safety plans for those in abusive relationships *Finding suitable housing, baby items, referrals Growing As Parents: A 12-week life and parenting skills program offered at various locations across Peel Region. Some of the topics covered are: healthy relationships, positive communication, coping as a single parent, anger management, etc. Please note that childminding is available and light snacks are provided. Supper Connection: A weekly program that focuses on parenting and life skills programming in conjunction with healthy nutrition and food security information sharing. Meals included. Nobody’s Perfect was developed by Public Health Canada over 30 years ago, to promote positive parenting, and is particularly suited for our client population: designed to meet the needs of parents who are young, single, socially or geographically isolated, or who have low income or limited formal education. Me, My Baby, Our World, was developed by Rosalie Hall in Toronto to promote positive attachment for young mothers by helping to increase parental confidence and sensitive responses to their children leading to improved infant mental health outcomes. Volunteer Opportunities: There are opportunities on the board of directors and steering committee, positions to help with the planning and execution of events as well as chances to assist in the everyday operations of Vita Centre (childminding, general administration, food preparation). All inventory is donated by the community and therefore, we cannot confirm availability of all items at all times. Here are some supplies you can access to properly care for your infant: *formula and bottles, baby food *diapers and wipes *gift certificates *baby and kids clothing *gently-used baby furniture such as cribs and strollers |
