Description | Adoption in Ontario can be carried out in four different ways: * One of the children's aid societies in Ontario (generally involving Crown wards of the province who are available for adoption) * Licensed private adoption agencies or individuals licensed (licensees) by the ministry (generally involving Ontario infants whose parents have decided that adoption is the best option for them) * Licensed international adoption agencies (who are authorized to place children from many different countries) * The courts in the case of the adoption of Ontario children by their relatives or step-parents (note that "relative" is limited to the child's grandparent, great-uncle, great-aunt, uncle or aunt) Licensed service providers are also available to assist birth parents who are considering adoption for their child Other interim services under the Accesss to Adoption Records Act include: The provision of a copy of the adoption order for an adoption in Ontario The provision of non-identifying background information pertaining to a private adoption in Ontario (the children's aid society will have non-identifying information pertaining to a public adoption) This information can be obtained from Service Ontario at locations around the province or on-line at: http://www.ontario.ca/en/information_bundle/adoption/111872.html For other current services provided by the Adoption Disclosure Unit, contact: The Adoption Disclosure Unit Ministry of Community and Social Services 80 Grosvenor Street, 7th floor, Hepburn Block Toronto, Ontario M7A 1E9 Toll-free: 1-800-461-2156 In Toronto: 416-325-8305 TTY: 416-325-3408 www.mcss.gov.on.ca |
