Description | Silent Voice, a charitable, not-for-profit community organisation, serves Deaf adults, youth, children, and their families in an American Sign Language (ASL) environment. They are dedicated to improving communication and relationships between Deaf and hearing family members and Deaf and hearing members of the community. Silent Voice is an agency grounded in Catholic values offering services to the whole community. They value and respect the dignity and worth of all people. Silent Voice provides services in three streams: Deaf Adult Services Programs *One-to-one support to Deaf adults *Housing Resource Centre *Deaf Parenting Program *free Tax Clinic every spring for low income families *Financial Literacy education *Settlement Services. Children and Family programming *Sign Language Summer Camp – day camp in ASL for Deaf children, their hearing siblings and hearing children of Deaf parents/relatives *Family Communication Program – qualified Deaf ASL instructors do home visits to families where there is a Deaf child and in their homes teach the hearing family members ASL *Sports, Recreation, and Leadership programming to Deaf children and youth, providing accessible sports clinics, introducing Deaf children and youth to Deaf adult role models, world-class Deaf athletes, and improving their self-esteem and confidence, and engagement in activities that are otherwise not accessible to them *ASL Services *ASL language development services to families in the Infant Hearing Program of the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services |
