Description | Shelter Program Operates an emergency shelter for women and their children fleeing violence * accommodates 25 women and children in a secure setting * offers support and counselling 24hrs/day 7 days/week * partially wheelchair accessible * provides assistance in planning for the future * provides information, referral and advocacy Outreach Program Women's Group (English and Spanish): Eight to twelve-week sessions, held in the evenings. Gain insight into the impact of living with abuse and control. Healthy meal and childcare are provided. Women's Drop-In: This drop-in program is a casual atmosphere, where women enjoy arts and crafts; guest speakers; facilitated discussions; games and lots of laughs. A healthy meal is provided. New Program. Housing Drop-In: This drop-in programs runs Wednesday evenings and provides Housing Search Support, Subsidized Housing application, Rent Bank Info and Referral and Information on Tenant Rights and Responsibilities. Friday Morning Flicks: Women join us every Friday morning at 9:30 for breakfast and a documentary. For Women and Children: Parent/Child Drop-In: This program provides an opportunity for Moms to socialize and trade information with other Moms. Sometimes the group runs special programs, such as Nobody's Perfect. Nobody's Perfect: This is a parenting and support program for mothers of children ages 0 to 6. It focuses on positive discipline and parenting skills. Childcare and a healthy meal provided. For Young Women: Girlz Space After-School Program: For girls ages 10 to 13. Girlz Space runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. during the school year; full days on PD days, during March Break and for one month, full days in the summer. Each day has a different theme, including Girl Talk; Social; Drama; Homework Help; and Recreation. "Girlfriends" Drop-In: A drop in for girls' age 14 - 18 to come and have fun, hang out with friends and learn new things. For the Community: Outreach Centre Individual Services: One-on-one counselling (English and Spanish): Direct counselling for women who are escaping, or have already escaped violence. Transitional Services: Help with developing safety plans, advocacy with other workers from other agencies, eviction advocacy and more. Housing Support: Works with women to access affordable housing and market rate rents. Parent Support Services: Parent Support Worker: Works with parents and children to provide supportive parenting education, children's counselling, advocacy for child care subsidy. Parent Relief: Women can leave their children for up to four hours with a qualified childminder while they do errands; go to an appointment; or take a much-needed break. Respite Care: Our Respite Care Program is for mothers in transition - women living in a shelter, maternity home, with friends or family, or other short-term housing. Free overnight care is provided for children in a safe and supervised home environment for up to five days. |
