Provides travel information and assistance services for Canadians living or traveling outside Canada * check the web site for the different services offered overseas (in some places, Australian diplomatic officers provide consular services to Canadians) * responds to emergencies * communicates with family and/or friends in the event of an emergency * provides contact with arrested or detained persons (service varies from country to country depending on needs and conditions) * deals with missing persons, child custody, kidnapping * provides citizenship service: advice & guidance; and forwarding to Registrar of Citizenship as well as passport information * provides a registration service for Canadians living or travelling in a foreign country, especially where a potential for problems or a developing crisis could arise |
