| Description | With a team of Public Health Inspectors, Tobacco Enforcement Officers, Health Promoters, and Research and Policy Analysts, we: Inspect and investigate complaints to ensure the following are operating properly: *restaurants *swimming and wading pools, spas and splash pads *nursing homes and daycare centres *tattoo and body piercing studios and hair salons *stores that sell tobacco products *small drinking water systems Investigate: *rabies exposures *foodborne illnesses and community outbreaks *complaints about prohibited smoking and tobacco sales to under-aged youth *community concerns related to environmental health issues Monitor: *take samples from beaches and from swimming pools to check that you can swim in the water (high *levels of bacteria could make you sick) *check mosquito and tick populations to limit the spread of West Nile Virus, Lyme disease and *Eastern Equine Encephalitis *model and monitor air quality Educate: *Food Handler Certification course *beach test results are posted online during the summer *health protection information is posted on our website *community education on issues such as air quality and children's health and the environment Research: *emerging issues related to health protection such as air quality, climate change and others |
