DescriptionThe Caledon Countryside Alliance is a non-profit organization that works to ensure that Caledon maintains its rural nature. The main objective is to raise awareness of the importance and value of the countryside. The organization runs membership programs including weekly hikes, a speaker series, a voice for the Caledon Environmental Community and email updates.
Recently the organization completed a three-year campaign to have residents sign a pledge to take one or more actions that will reduce their impact on the environment and reduce Caledon's ecological footprint. As a result of this campaign, the following community programs developed: The Weedgee Kidz (Getting Your Lawn off Drugs); Buy Local and Building a Local Food System; Caledon Dufferin REEP (Residential Energy Efficiency Project) and Making Caledon's Schools Idle Free. Eat Local Caledon Initiative. These programs all contribute to make Caledon a more sustainable community.
