Description | Language Assessment Centres provide free English/French language assessments and referrals to classes for eligible immigrants seeking language training in Peel and Halton Regions. Assessments are free of charge for most immigrants to Canada who are 18 years of age and older, with the exception of visitors and international students. Please note: * Certified assessors conduct the assessments by appointment only * The assessment process can take up to 3 hours or more * Upon assessment completion, clients are referred to appropriate language training classes There are 4 Language Assessment Centres in Peel: *Brampton East - 263 Queen St E, Unit 14 (Queen St E and Rutherford Rd) 905-595-0722 press 4101 *Brampton City South - 7700 Hurontario St N, Unit 601, Brampton (Hurontario St N and Steeles Ave) 905-457-4747 ext 3025 *Malton - 7420 Airport Road, Suite 104 (between Steeles and Derry) 905-677-0007 press 1 *Mississauga - 50 Burnhamthorpe Rd W, Suite 300, Mississauga, ON L5B 3C2 (One block South of Square One Shopping Centre), 905-949-0049 ext 1369. *In Halton Region, the Language Assessment Centre is located at 690 Dorval Drive, Suite 100, Oakville, ON, L6K 3X9, 905-875-3851 press 5012. Eligibility | Ages: 18 year(s) and up Age Adults, 18 years of age or older or, if younger, with proof of high school completion from the country of origin. Status in Canada: * Canadian Citizen (born outside Canada) * Permanent Resident * Convention Refugee/Protected Person * Persons in Canada whose applications for Permanent Resident status are being processed in Canada, and who have been informed by a letter from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada of the initial approval of their application subject to an admissibility assessment * Refugee Claimant * Temporary Worker or Student who has obtained initial approval for a concurrent Application for Permanent Residence * Foreign Domestic Worker admitted under the Live-In Caregiver program Deaf and Hard-of Hearing students are also welcome |
Application | * Eligibility must be verified prior to scheduling an appointment, and all fees paid in full if applicable * Original documents indicating immigration status in Canada, and photo identification must be presented at the time of assessment * Call or visit for an appointment * Evening and Saturday appointments also available |
