1. Start to prepare around 2:45 p.m. 
2. Fill kettle with water, plug in and wait until boils. Use 2 tea pots; weak tea takes 1 tea bag and strong tea takes 2 tea bags. 
3. From tea cart, get out sugar, sweetner, and stir sticks. From the fridge get out milk. Place them all in the middle of the cart. 
4. Gather 10 to 12 tea cups from the cupboard and place on one side of the tea cart. 
5. Place two round cork mats on the opposite side of the cups on the tea cart and place the hot tea pots (one on each). 
6.Push tea cart out to the main lobby at 3:00 p.m. (carpet must be folded over to avoid spills). 
7. Serve the residents that need assistance and encourage all other able residents to serve themselves. 
8.Introduce yourself, what you do, where you're from and so on to make conversation with the residents. 
9. If there is a game planned please start the game at 3:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
10.Encourage residents to play the game, but if they really resist, allow them to simply watch. 
11. Program lasts till about 4:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m., depending on the resident's participation. 
12. Take attendance (when in doubt, ask resident for their name). 
13. Say goodbye and let the residents know the next time you willl be in. 
14. Clean up. Collect all tea cups and push the cart back into the Rotary Room. 
15. Put all cups, tea pots (empty tea bags in the garbage) and cookie trays into the dishwasher. Flip the dishwasher to on (the switch on the bottom). Wash all tea pots, tea cups and used utensils. 
16. Lock up sugar, sweetner and stirrers, as well as all other things taken from inside the tea cart. Put all things back in the fridge and lock up. 
17. Wipe down the tea cart with disinfectant. 
18. Sign out on the time sheet on the volunteer board.

The purpose of the Volunteer Visiting Program is to improve the health and well-being of isolated senior survivors of mental illness living in the community, in order to maintain clients’ independent functioning in the community for as long as possible.  
 
A volunteer visitor offers support and social interaction to an isolated individual through regular friendly visits at the client’s home or out in the community, encouraging active and independent living. 
 
Duties include: 
- Visit assigned client approximately once per week or as arranged between the volunteer and the client, and notify the client if there are any changes to the schedule 
- Assist client to maintain or re-establish community contacts 
- Encourage the client and family to be as independent as possible 
- Provide companionship to the client 
- Provide support to the client on walks, with reading (e.g, listening and providing emotional support) 
- Work with supervisor to meet the client’s individual needs 
- Submit monthly reports and keep an accurate record of visits, hours and activities 
- Report to the supervisor any concerns regarding the well-being of the client 
- Attend in-service training as arranged by the branch, including initial orientation 
- Attend volunteer meetings 
- If interested, may be involved in the planning and evaluation of events 
- Make a commitment of 1 to 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months

Lunch Program Volunteer [ More info  ]  
1. Collect table cloths from Personal Support Worker (PSW) office based on how many people are attending. 
2. Set up tables with napkins and salt and pepper. 
3. Get styrofoam plates and cups out of kitchen cupboards (may also need forks and knives depending on the type of food). 
4. Take out juice and pop out of fridge and serve the residents their drink of choice as they come in. 
5. If a resident is not present please go and knock on their door and remind them of the Lunch program. If they are not feeling well they can have their dinner in their room, but always encourage them to come first. 
6. Sub Lunch- everyone gets their sub that they ordered. The sign up sheet will list what everyone has ordered.  
7. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Lunch – Everyone gets a KFC Package, 2 pieces of chicken and french fries. 
8. If a resident is not home please put food in the fridge and let the Recreation Coordinator know so they can let them know when they get home. 
9. Offer refills on drinks throughout the Lunch and ask if everything is ok. 
10. Make sure to socialize with the residents. 
11. When all the residents have left please put all plates, cups and anything else in the garbage and put left over drinks back into the fridge. 
12. Take all table cloths downstairs with you and place them outside the PSW office. 
13. Please lock the dining room door and exit through the elevator. 
14. Sign out on the time sheet on the volunteer board.

Fluent Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)and English is required to communicate with program participants. Duties include: 
1. Know how to play and teach Mah Jongg. 
2. Recruit and remind seniors of the program. 
3. Start game and keep score. 
4. Clean up at the end of the game. 
5. Take attendance (if in doubt, ask residents for their name). 
6. Sign out on time sheets at Volunteer Board. 
7. Slide attendance sheet under Recreation/Volunteer Coordinator's door.
