The purpose of the Volunteer Visiting Program is to improve the health and well-being of isolated seniors and adults with disabilities living in the community; and to provide occasional relief for caregivers, in order to maintain clients’ independent functioning in the community for as long as possible.
A volunteer visitor offers support and social interaction to an isolated individual through regular friendly visits at the client’s home or out in the community, encouraging active and independent living. Activities may include: playing board games or cards, having a cup of tea or coffee, crafts, going for a walk, going shopping, or simply having a friendly chat.
Important:
- ORIENTATION WILL BE CONDUCTED May 16, 2013 AT 10am-12pm or 6-8pm.

Our volunteer roles may change slightly based on our clients' needs, but some of our common roles are:
- Spending one on one time with residents to help them read, listen to music, play cards, build a puzzle etc.
- Helping gather residents to participate in our group activities (bingo, movie night etc)
- Using our supplies to organize an activity for one resident or a group of residents (crafts, knitting etc)
- Helping staff prepare for special events (i.e. birthday parties, cultural days etc)
- Getting to know the residents, listening, and chatting

- All outings are on foot, by public transportation, taxi or Handibus; Vision Mate volunteers do not drive clients.
- Schedule visits on a consistent basis.
