| Description | The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) is a voluntary non-profit association that represents operators of retirement residences in Ontario. In compliance with Ontario’s Retirement Homes Act (RHA), ORCA members offer Ontario seniors a safe, well-maintained, and comfortable living environment. For 35 years, ORCA has set the standard for operational excellence through its longstanding accreditation program and its leadership in retirement living education. ORCA represents more than 80 per cent of the retirement home sector in Ontario with members providing accommodations and services to more than 37,000 seniors. ORCA’s membership also includes 270 commercial members who provide products and services to retirement communities. Education ORCA’s dedicated retirement-specific education programs provide affordable and accessible training to members throughout the province. With innovative content and delivery methods, ORCA’s programming educates members of legislative requirements and operational best practices. ORCA provides online training to frontline staff covering mandatory requirements under applicable legislation. ORCA also works actively with communitybased experts to create programs and training opportunities that are current, credible, and designed to meet the changing needs of today’s seniors. Advocacy ORCA is committed to retirement living communities by advocating for seniors and retirement operators, as well as updating them on issues relating to standards of care and delivery. The Association has long been an advocate for legislation that enhances consumer protection and reinforces high standards of safety, care and service. Networking ORCA provides a variety of platforms for its members to develop and share best practices. Members are invited to participate in professional development opportunities and meetings throughout the year where they come together to learn and share ideas across a wide range of topics. Partnerships ORCA works closely and actively with a number of organizations dedicated to supporting and protecting Ontario seniors. The association is an integrated partner with a variety of health, social and community organizations, reflecting the role of retirement living operators as important providers of services to today’s seniors. Some examples of these partnerships include the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, Alzheimer's Society of Ontario, the College of Nurses of Ontario, and many more. | |||
