| Description | Vietnamese community centre * provides programs that enable Vietnamese in the region to develop skills necessary for the participation in Canada life * ensures that programs and services provided by VCCM and other organizations in the region are accessible to the Vietnamese-speaking population * preserves the Vietnamese culture and tradition in harmony with multiculturalism Social Services - assists Vietnamese living in Peel region to apply for SIN, OHIP, legal and financial assistance, non-profit housing and settlement-related services * organizes support groups for women, youth, and seniors to aid integration into the mainstream society * provides settlement and counselling services for the community * offers interpretation and translation services * provides probation counselling Education - assists new immigrants in registration procedures to enroll in educational institutions * co-operates with Peel Board of Education to provide Heritage language, ESL (English as a Second Language), LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada), citizenship classes, mathematics, and computer classes * provides job search techniques in resume writing and office skills * holds seminars and workshops to inform the Vietnamese community of issues concerning Canadian legal system and human rights Cultural Services - organizes traditional festivals, ritual ceremonies and Canadian celebrations * publishes newsletters to inform Vietnamese residents of community activities Sports and Other Activities - offers a community-based music band to perform on holidays * organizes local sport teams to participate in the annual North American Sports Event and other competition * organizes picnics, camping trips and scenic sightings | |||
