|Description||We have three services for children and adolescents: |
There are two children’s mental health inpatient units at Brampton Civic Hospital:
1. The Child and Adolescent Unit (10-beds) provides care to children and adolescents, up to the age of 18, who are experiencing acute mental health symptoms. Patients are assessed, treated and discharged, with the involvement of family, school and community supports. Admission to the unit is voluntary. An on-site school program, tailored to the student’s current educational level, is also offered.
2. The Child and Adolescent Intensive Unit (4 beds) serves the most acutely ill youth who arrive through the Emergency Department. Admission to this unit is on an involuntary basis.
3. Day Hospital, for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who have acute psychiatric symptoms but do not need overnight hospital admission.
