|Description||Helping Mothers and Children Survive Abuse Together (HMSCAT) |
HMSCAT is a free 10-week closed group for women and their children ages newborn to 12 years old. The program provides assistance to women in helping their children deal with the impacts of exposure to woman abuse. HMSCAT is offered in a number of different languages, including English, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi, Afro-Caribbean languages, and South Asian languages. Women of all religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcomed, and the program is offered in Brampton and Mississauga.
Lyrical Quest is offered as one session per week for 8 weeks, and is a group program for adolescents who have been exposed to violence against women in their families. The focus is on using music, spoken word, and expressive arts as a therapeutic intervention to stimulate discussion regarding various facets of violence such as social issues, family conflict, and community and cultural beliefs. Adolescents are also taught skills that help them to develop healthy relationships.
