| Description | Youth Net Peel is a youth empowering program "by youth for youth". Aims to break down barriers by reaching out to youth anywhere and everywhere they are found. Offers youth the opportunity to speak and be heard, share opinions, as well as offer and receive support from their peers. Youth Net's goals are to: Increase awareness and communication about mental health; Decrease the stigma of mental illness; Facilitate early intervention for mental illness; Promote good mental health; Help youth develop connections with a safety net of youth-friendly professionals. Youth Net believes in respecting and valuing youths' experiences by connecting youth with one another with a commitment to listening without judging. Youth Net believes in responding to what is heard and empowering youth to find healthy coping mechanisms and proactive solutions. Youth Net ensures a safety net of youth-friendly professionals when needed. These goals are achieved is by hosting discussion groups that are 1.5hrs in length with 8-12 youth participants. These groups are facilitated by two youth who receive intensive training in group facilitation and suicide intervention and bring a variety of life experience and educational background to the program. Each one has a current police check. Facilitators serve as a bridge to youth-friendly resources, identified as youth-friendly by youth themselves. Youth Net facilitators are backed by professional, youth-friendly clinical back-up provided by either Mobile Crisis Services of Peel or the Crisis Response Service of Peel Children's Centre. | |||
