Description/Eligibility/Service Details
DescriptionThe purpose of CMHA/Peel Resource Centre is to provide a welcoming point of entry and access to the mental health system. The program's objective is to build greater awareness and acceptance of mental illness and the need to maintain one's mental health. 
 
INFORMATION AND REFERRAL 
Certified Staff provides information and/or service by telephone, website, email, correspondence or in person. Provides information and/or directs callers to resources, within or outside CMHA, using established procedures and forms. Brief service includes active listening and identification of needs as appropriate; referral within CMHA and/or to community resources; helps caller define problem and provide a range of options and follow up as needed. 
 
DATA MANAGEMENT 
A partner in Community Information Partners Peel, managing mental health and addiction records in this Community Information Database. 
 
PRESENTATIONS AND TRAINING 
Offers introductory presentations on facts of mental illness, depression, and mental health. Occasionally hosts public presentations and forums. 
 
Training includes: 
Mental Health Works (management and employee training in how to accommodate mental illness in the workplace) 
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) 
Understanding Mental Illness 
Concurrent Disorders 
 
AWARENESS 
A comprehensive web site is maintained with information about mental health and illness, and the organization's governance, operations, and programs. Interactive quizzes and searchable database of community resources. 
 
Displays (half, full day and/or multiple days at various locations), fully staffed with handouts (eg: CMHA National brochures, program information; give-aways such as stress cards). Also conducts special events and campaigns like Mental Health Week, Geranium Sales, Mental Illness Awareness Week. 
 
LIBRARY 
Sources, acquires and organizes mental health resources, e.g. videos, books, audiotapes and other print materials. The Library offers self-serve or assisted access to the Internet and organizes appropriate Internet information resources. Library borrowing is limited to members of the association. The Resource Centre has a light used for treatment of mood disorders or seasonal affective disorder. (Residents of Orangeville would be able to sign out the light for a three-week period free of cost. Pick up could be in Brampton if requested).
