| Description | ON SCENE AND TELEPHONE CRISIS SUPPORT: The Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Service (VCARS) site (operating under auspices of the Ministry of the Attorney General, provides immediate support and assistance to victims of crime, adversity, tragedy, and/or disaster, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The agency responds to occurrences such as domestic violence, sudden deaths, suicides, motor vehicle collisions and fatalities, death notifications, sexual assaults, break & enters, family/personal crisis, homicides, property-related crime calls, and provides court support and accompaniment. INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES: Provides information about resources available in and out of the community for longer-term support and care. DVERS ALARMS AND SUPPORTLINK CELL PHONES: Domestic Violence Emergency Response Systems (DVERS) are home alarms provided to victims at high risk of domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment. SupportLink wireless cell phones, preprogrammed to dial 9-1-1, also provided to victims at high risk. When alarms are activated, Caledon OPP, Dufferin OPP, Shelburne Police Services and Orangeville Police Services respond as a priority call. SAFETY PLANNING: Extensive safety planning offered to ensure safety at work, at home, in transition. Follow up telephone contact subsequent to police intervention, to ensure victim has support, checking their progress, and has connected with community resources, if appropriate. VICTIM QUICK RESPONSE PROGRAM: Provide IMMEDIATE special funding to victims of the most serious crimes who meet established criteria. | |||
