Muslim Community Services (MCS) Is a not-for-profit multi-service agency, managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, focusing on the needs of immigrants, newcomers, refugees and other community members through direct service provision in a manner that facilitates access to community and social support functions * agency helps to reduce individual's isolation, minimize barriers, strengthen community and thus work towards community integration * services offered include: Language Instruction For Newcomers To Canada (LINC) that provides basic language training in one of the Canada's official languages to adults immigrants after their arrival in Canada so that they may acquire the necessary language skills to integrate into Canadian society * offers English classes including Literacy and LINC Levels 1-7 at the Brampton and Mississauga locations * childcare for eligible participants is available at both sites. Violence Against Women Program provides holistic approach towards family violence * while dealing with women who are victims of abuse. It takes into consideration the related issues of low education, lack of information, low self-esteem, financial dependency, and emotional, psychological and social problems of the entire family, especially children * developed with sensitivity for the cultural needs of women in Peel Region * includes crisis counselling, creating safety plan, emotional support, and information and referral * women are served one-on-one basis or in group setting* The program also helps children who have witnessed abuse in their homes * program will provide early intervention * safe place for women and children to discuss the violence they have experienced * healing process and support * initiative is a joint venture of many organizations in the Region of Peel. Newcomer Settlement Program - intake * assessment * form filling * referrals * support groups * supportive counselling * life skills workshops and seminars on topics that will help access services, integration * with the help of Brampton Multicultural Community Centre (BMC). Employment Support: A program to assist the unemployed or under-employed with job search support * labour market information * job referral * work trials or placements * seminars on employment issues * training information with the help of BMC * Support Groups, monthly meetings for women and seniors to dialogue, solving their problems through peer support, networking, information sharing and time for themselves * group meetings increases awareness on services, resources available for women and empower them to deal with day-to-day realities, develop higher self-esteem, confidence and language skills for the labour market* Income Tax Clinic; annual free tax clinic conducted by volunteer professionals accountants and team from the Revenue Canada, Certified General Accountants (CGA) to assist low-income individuals, seniors, families, social assistance recipients and newcomers to prepare income tax returns. |

Seniors Committee - organizes monthly dinner gatherings for the older men in the community to share food and thoughts * organizes activities and events such as card games, computer-literacy training, and field trips to festivals, national parks, and recreation areas
Youth Committee - aims to bring youth from the community together in a space where they can work toward common goals * youth mentorship - for youth at risk, as well as for students needing help with school work, university applications, standardized tests (e.g. LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, etc) * Youth Study Group & Oral History Project - in coordination with the Palestine House Resource Centre * brings youth and seniors from the community together to record the narratives and stories of our people, and to research, document and record these stories * group trips - picnics, paintball games, sporting events, theatre and music performances, etc * organizing social events and gatherings to bring people together, raise money, and showcase local talent * organizing sporting events, such as basketball and football (soccer) pick-up games and tournaments in the area, as well as supporting the community's athletic teams
